    go BJ!

    i agree!

politicians always have to look relevant to their "alleged constituents" (but they are even being "puked out" as waste) even if they are already inconsistent with who they are, look at Guingona for example; wasn't he who against estrada at the whole impeachment and gambling issue?

    where is he now?

    haayyy!

the strange thing is that all these political exercises are actually confined to very narrow national spaces (e.g. urban centers, the middle class). the vast majority of people living in these islands don't know or don't care about what's going on in government. the kankana-ey in atok for example are angry at manilenos (politicians and activists alike) for always creating this brouhaha that only disrupt their livelihood. they don't care about who sits in the palace or who gets arrested. they're only concern is selling of their crops and feeding themselves. i also know of this household help who didn't realize that zamboanga (where she hailed) was part of the philippines. some would call her ignorant but she's really just operating on the level of what's relevant to her (read: her hometown). why should she bother with a malacanang that recognizes her only during election time or a philippines that showed up only in her grade school lessons? we still have quite a way to go before we achieve a substantial sense of nationhood partly because we have more of an exclsive rather than inclusive mentality. edsa 1 and 2 have been labelled (rightfully i think) revolutions of the middle class. not a few romantics see them as times when people from all walks of life came together in the spirit of reconciliation and cooperation. but they succeeded largely because they involved "people of consequence" (i.e. the middle class). look at the so-called edsa 3: it was a miserable failure because it was a lumpen initiative. even if they were sincere and passionate and had legitimate grievances (the presence of some opportunistic politicians notwithstanding), nobody lisened to them. nobody listens to them. even history denies them the name "edsa." teka, san na ba ako papunta? si dude kasi eh, naubos tuloy agad ang monthly quota ko of one-liners :) what does it mean to be relevant? is gma relevant? is the afp relevant? is pinoy big brother relevant? and perhaps more importantly, relevant to who? personally, i agree with you dude na ang dapat natin atupagin ay individual at community initiative. this is where the concrete action is. national government is significant (for better or worse) but it shouldn't distract from local endeavors. if progress won't trickle down from above, we should make it creep up from below. like vegetables :)

firstly i think this is an awesome shot.

and on the topic, the people who are so deep in this is, are simply re-inveting their political image by trying so hard to be relevant.

yup, they do not even represent the .0001% of the peoples sentiments.

Lucia died last year, I think. Mahilig ang mga tao dito sa southeastern Massachusetts to Our Lady of Fatima kasi maraming mga taga Portugal dito. :)
